What's the purpose of this NEW blog...

As the title says, the purpose of this blog is for the following:
1. Me to keep track of what i've done
2. Make other ecclesias aware of what is being produced
3. Invite comments, shared ideas, and 'maybe' avoid duplication

As a community we are 'not always' the most organised when it comes to sharing ideas... and very often someone can be spending a lot of unpaid time and effort producing something that already exists.
So, as a designer who spends a lot of time working on the projects that will be posted here I thought it would be good to put a shout out to other Christadelphian publishers, writers and designers and see if we can streamline things a little.

So, for the last 12 years or so i've been helping out on the content, design and print leaflets, websites, exhibition stands, cartoon strips, tshirts and badges - mostly through the Scottish branch ALS and although i'm no longer on the committee it was always the intention to continue the work. The latest project is the Search For Hope exhibition which started life as a leaflet and got expanded to a booklet (currently the centre 8 pages of the Glad Tidings magazine) and finally to a series of 8 Dimension D4.6 banner stands.
Over a series of posts i'll add images and comments, i'll also include some archived work that has been done over the past few years.
Please contribute with ideas, comments and examples of you own work and practices... this really is intended to be a collaborative effort.
You might be interested to see a couple of other blogs (in the links section to your right) that were set up for old and current projects...
Time Reporters can be found on Blogger and is a record of me sketching ideas for the children's book of that name, published by the Christadelphian Sunday School Union.
Evil Empires is on Posterous and is an ongoing project with another Christadelphian, David Barnes, and it's our 'Horrible Histories' style take on events from the Bible.
The interesting thing about both of these projects is that I have never met of even spoken to the other contributers, everything has been done through email or blog. I suppose with the technology being what it is this happens all the time but it's not something that I've gotten used to.

Sorry, long post.. other will be shorter and more visual :)

Thanks

J

  1. Hi Jon,

This is a fanastic idea. I'm the secretary of the Mt Waverley (Melbourne, Australia) preaching committee and have quite a bug about the way we graphically present ourselves to the community. I'm also very much involved in r-developing the Australian Bible Exhibition. I have tought myself how t do basic illustrator designing for our marketing but would love to be able to share and see other ecclesia's material. Why can I upload our gear?

    Thanks, God bless,
    Michael
